Family Owned & Operated
Thacker serves as the largest family-owned and operated funeral supply company in the United States. At our core, we are a small business just like our funeral home customers. We understand the challenges of owning a small business, but also the sense of accomplishment in the victories!
First Generation
Carl C. Thacker founded Thacker Caskets in 1939 and throughout his tenure as President of the business, he built a strong foundation for the family business to rest upon for generations to come.
In 1959, Carl C. Thacker married business acquaintance Audrey Luchetti who worked for the largest U.S. casket manufacturer at that time, Casket Shells, Inc. (CSI). Audrey worked for CSI as a bookkeeper handling the accounting for Carl’s account. In 1959, Audrey married Carl and moved to Washington, D.C. to join him in the business as a powerful husband and wife duo.
Second Generation
Upon the untimely death of Carl C. Thacker, Audrey along with their only son, CJ Thacker took the helm of the business – CJ was only eighteen years old at the time. Together, they spearheaded Thacker’s tremendous years of growth and a lot of “firsts” for Thacker – the company’s first satellite distribution center, the company’s first acquisition, and the company’s first move into manufacturing and vertical integration.
Third Generation
In 2007, the first of Thacker’s third generation, Danielle Thacker, entered the family business following her graduation from Villanova University with a double major in Marketing and Management Information Systems. Just four years after Danielle’s entry into the business, Justin Thacker followed in the family's footsteps upon his graduation from Franklin & Marshall College with a major in Business Management with a specialty in Finance. Then finally, Sara Thacker jumped on board the family business train after her graduation from York College with a major in Operations and Supply Chain Management. Each of the members of the third generation brings their unique and varied strengths to the business table all in the name of being the industry’s most trusted and well-respected funeral supplier.
